At Delves Junior School, the modern foreign language that we study is Spanish, and all pupils receive a half-hour lesson per week from their class teacher following the Primary Languages Network curriculum. Every two weeks, this is supplemented by an additional hour of teaching from a subject specialist as part of the carousel of activities offered on our fortnightly Enrichment Days. Our primary focus is on developing the children’s confidence in speaking Spanish, and on exposing them to high-quality spoken and written Spanish, including by native speakers. By so doing, our children will acquire the skills to participate confidently in basic conversations, and will be able to travel abroad with the ability to communicate practically and transactionally in simple holiday situations.
