Design and Technology

Our Design and Technology curriculum aims to ignite children’s imaginations, developing cognitive challenge and communication skills. It will provide them with the understanding of how design and technology both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation. It will encourage children to explore a range of careers and possibilities linked to design and technology.

The curriculum provides opportunities for children to develop appropriate skills and knowledge to achieve a range of clearly identified outcomes across the year groups, working in relatable contexts and developing real world products.

This document shows how children's design and technology skills progress through Key Stage 2.  

Here are some examples of our knowledge organisers.  These documents are used by teachers to help them plan in detail the key knowledge children will learn about different aspects of design and technology in each Year Group.  

As part of our Design and Technology curriculum, Year 5 designed and made electric cars.  They then spent a day at an engineering training centre where they learnt about all the careers in engineering. Children were given a tour of the training site where they were able to observe future engineers at work. They then put some of their engineering skills to the test whilst working as a team to design, manufacture and race electric cars.
