The History curriculum aims to spark pupils’ curiosity about the past, leave them asking and answering important questions, deliver cultural capital and embed knowledge through revision and revisiting of non-negotiable historical facts. The National History Curriculum outlines; ‘…teachers should combine overview and depth studies to help pupils understand both the long arc of development and the complexity of specific aspects of the content.’ (DfE, 2013).
Each Year Group looks at different Themes throughout History. They complete focus studies and depth studies to allow them to understand how key aspects of our world have changed over time. In this way they develop their historical skills and build key knowledge about the past.
