Forest School

Forest School

At our school, we are proud to offer a rich and exciting Forest School programme that inspires children to explore, discover and learn through hands‑on experiences in the natural world.  Forest School gives pupils regular opportunities to learn outdoors, develop confidence, and build a lifelong connection with nature.

What Is Forest School?

Forest School is a child‑centred, long‑term learning approach that takes place in our dedicated woodland and outdoor area.  Through carefully planned sessions, children take part in practical activities that encourage curiosity, teamwork and problem‑solving.  The approach supports emotional wellbeing as much as academic learning, helping children become resilient, independent thinkers.

What Children Do in Forest School

Our pupils take part in a wide range of activities, including:

  • Building dens and shelters
  • Learning about wildlife and habitats
  • Natural art and creative projects
  • Safe tool use under supervision
  • Fire circle sessions and outdoor cooking (age and safety dependent)
  • Team‑building challenges
  • Mindfulness moments and nature observation

These activities help children develop skills linked to communication, cooperation, risk‑taking, creativity and environmental stewardship.

The Benefits of Forest School

Forest School supports the whole child—emotionally, socially, physically and academically. It helps children to:

  • Build resilience and confidence
  • Develop problem‑solving and critical thinking skills
  • Improve coordination and physical strength
  • Learn to assess and manage risk
  • Boost wellbeing through time spent outdoors
  • Develop respect and care for the natural environment
  • Enhance teamwork, communication and leadership skills

Our Approach

Sessions are led by our trained and experienced Forest School practitioner, Miss L Green, who create a safe, supportive environment where children are encouraged to follow their interests and take ownership of their learning.  Activities are carefully tailored to each age group and linked to the wider curriculum where appropriate.

A Space for Everyone

Forest School is inclusive and accessible for all pupils.  Whether a child is naturally adventurous or more reserved, the calm and open nature of the outdoor environment allows everyone to thrive at their own pace
