Votes for Schools

What are British Values?

Fundamental British values are:

  • democracy
  • the rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

We use Votes for Schools as part of our Character Education offer.  This is a resource for discussing current issues and to ensure the consistent, quality delivery of British values.

Each week children are given a key question to discuss and are given evidence for both sides of the argument.  They then vote on what they think and these votes are sent into a national database where they are counted-the result is shared the following week.  Democracy in action!

As part of UK Parliament Week in November 2021, we invited our local MP Valerie Vaz into school.  Here are some photos of her meeting our Year 5 children.
