Art and Design
Our Art curriculum aims to ‘engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design’. The National Art curriculum states ‘teaching should develop pupils techniques, including their control and their use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design.’ (DfE, 2013). Introduction of ‘Walsall Arts for All’ programme will support in delivering a broad and balanced curriculum which includes contributing to cultural capital.
Each Year Group looks in detail at a range of artwork from different periods through history, they analyse the art and use it to inspire their own works of art. While creating their own pieces of artwork children use a range of different media and develop their art skills.
