What we are learning this term

During this half term, we will be focusing on decimals, percentages and algebra.  We will be doing some extra work on our arithmetic skills to continue to improve our fluency in Maths.  We will be looking at how to add, subtract, multiply and divide with decimals; calculate percentages of amounts; find equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages; and also use them in a problem solving context.

Our topic in Science is 'Classification Connoisseurs'.

Our objectives are to:

i. describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including microorganisms, plants and animals

ii. give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics

We will be looking at the work of Carl Linnaeus and his impact on the classification of living things.

This half term we will be studying short stories in the topic "Funny, Fantastic, Frightening",  working on using paragraphs effectively and incorporating dialogue to write our own narratives.

Then we will be studying Michael Morpurgo's wonderful book 'Kensuke's Kingdom'.  We will continue to improve our writing skills, as well as our reading comprehension abilities - particularly our inference and deduction skills.

In our grammar and spelling lessons, we will continue to revise letter sounds and strings as well a wide range of grammar skills in preparation for our SATs.

Our theme topic this half term is based on the Design and Technology curriculum.
